Kemistikilta

Sisu Saarela

Hi everyone! I’m Sisu, a second-year bachelor’s student on the English side. I joined Kemistikilta early into my fuksi year and have become interested in the board positions and the activity of the guild more and more over time. Judging by this trajectory, it seems about time to apply for the role of International Captain!

Moro kaikille! Oon Sisu, toisen vuoden enkunkielinen kandiopiskelija.

  • How would you get master’s students interested in guild activities?

I believe the priorities of master’s and exchange students are often different from those of bachelor’s students, and activities should reflect this. Making events feel worth their time and making everyone feel equal and welcome to any event should be main priorities.

  • What kind of events would you like to organize for international students?

Events that encourage engagement with our great Finnish student culture that don’t require any previous knowledge of customs or traditions. I want to organize both relaxed and higher energy events so everyone has their wishes met.

  • How would you make sure that participation in student culture remains accessible to everyone?

Not requiring or assuming any prior knowledge of Finnish student culture and being enthusiastic and quick to teach and learn new things. An important role of the International Captain is to be someone everyone can approach and hang out with at events and outside of them.

  • What are the main challenges you will encounter next year?

With this only being my second year in Otaniemi, I think there is still a lot for me to learn about the student culture and other things here. Additionally I have not had too many chances to meet master’s and exchange students before, only having been a bachelor’s level tutor. However, I am quick to learn and excited to meet new people and so will be working on these issues all the time!
